David Bunting, Herbalist & Director of Botanical Affairs, has been dedicated to herbal medicine and quality herbal pharmacy for over 30 years. He is a founding member of the American Herbalists Guild, and has served on the Board of the American Herbal Products Association. He also taught medicine making at the California School of Herbal Studies. David has worked with leading companies in the herbal industry where he has had responsibility for herbal extract production, quality assurance, product development and regulatory affairs.
Dagmar Goldschmidt, Technical Affairs Manager, is a chemical engineer with extensive experience in FDA-regulated product processing and development. For 17 years, Dagmar managed product development and manufacture of cancer therapeutics in the biotech industry.
Autumn Summers, Herbalist & Educator, has been involved in the herbal medicine field for over two decades. Besides a degree in anthropology specializing in ethnobotany, she trained with Christopher Hobbs and at the California School of Herbal Studies where she has been core faculty for 15 years. Her hands-on experience includes herbal medicine production for clinicians, herbal clinic practice, and work in retail settings. Autumn has also taught at Sonoma State University, Santa Rosa Junior College, Ohlone Herbal Center and at numerous herbal conferences.
William Broen Herbalist & Educator, lives in Mar Vista, CA and is a Bioregional Herbalist who focuses on the medicinal uses of plants that grow in the Western United States. He attended the Pacific School of Herbal Medicine in Oakland, CA for four years. Currently, William leads herb walks and conducts lectures at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Gardens which is a native plant garden in Claremont, CA as well as leading many walks on his own and for other groups. William has extensive knowledge in North American ethnobotany and constitutional herbalism and focuses on making information very accessible and easy to understand. He is particularly fascinated by the ways a plant’s defense mechanisms and adaptations become beneficial for us and ways that we can connect with plants intuitively.
Ed Smith, Co-founder of Herb Pharm. Ed (popularly known as “Herbal Ed”) has worked as a medical herbalist for over 40 years and is an herbal researcher, teacher, and entrepreneur. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Sciences Degree from the National College of Naturopathic Medicine for his lifetime achievements in herbal medicine and medical plant conservation. Ed is a founding member of the American Herbalist Guild and United Plant Savers. He also serves on the Board of Advisors of the American Botanical Council. He has traveled to over 60 countries worldwide in his constant search for medicinal herbs and herbal knowledge, and he loves to share his botanical adventures in his lectures and classes. Ed resides on the Pharm Farm and serves on the Herb Pharm Board of Directors. He continues to be involved in formulation, new product development, and worldwide sourcing (GPS: Global Personal Sourcing).
Sara Katz, Co-founder of Herb Pharm. Sara has been actively working with medicinal herbs for over 30 years. She is a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA). She also serves as President of United Plant Savers, an organization dedicated to the conservation of North American medicinal plants, and she works with a number of local, state and national environmental groups. Sara also has a residence on our farm and continues to help guide Herb Pharm as a member of the Herb Pharm Board of Directors.
