5 Wellness Habits for Back-to-School Season
Back-to-school season is here! With it comes excitement, stress and big changes to daily routines. This time
of year, the whole family is transitioning from easy-going summer days to schedules centered around school
and homework.
As your wellness allies, we compiled 5 of our top tips to make going back to school a breeze.
Create a Calming Corner
Designate an area of your home to cultivate calmness. Make it a quiet spot to unwind, meditate, journal
or take a few deep breaths.

Practice Mindfulness Together
Mindfulness is a powerful tool that can help you and the kids navigate back-to-school season.
A simple exercise you can do anytime is using a mindfulness bell. If you’re practicing it with your
kids, have them sit comfortably and close their eyes. Then, ring the bell and tell them to raise their
hand when they can’t hear the sound anymore. When everyone’s hand is raised, tell them to move their
hand to their stomach and notice the in and out motion of their breathing. Ring the bell when you’re
ready to end. Notice how much calmer everyone feels after this exercise.
Plan Ahead and Make it Fun
The night before the first day can bring jitters, so prepare what you can and make a game out of it.
First, make a list of everything your child needs to do for the first day of school. Then, set a timer,
tell them to check everything off the list and see how long it takes. If you have multiple kids, the
fastest one gets something special in their lunchbox!
Keep Routines Consistent
Heading back to school can be stressful for families. Put your focus on anything you can keep
consistent—even if it’s as simple as playing outside for an hour after school, always washing your hands
