Kava Horchata with Kava: Cinnamon

Treat yourself to a hint of spice and everything nice! Horchata is a beloved drink in Latin America and Spain, and this mocktail is one of our favorite ways to enjoy Kava: Cinnamon. This tasty iced beverage is sweet, creamy, and with 4 servings, great to share with friends!

Ingredients

Serves 4

1 cup uncooked white rice

4 cups water

1 Cinnamon stick

1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract

1 cup milk of your choice

2 tablespoons cane sugar

0.7 ml Herb Pharm Kava: Cinnamon liquid herbal extract per serving

Ice

Optional Garnish: sprinkle of ground Cinnamon powder or Cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash and rinse the rice in a strainer over the sink.
  2. Combine the rice, water, and Cinnamon stick in a bowl, cover, and leave to soak overnight (or for at least 8 hours) in the refrigerator.
  3. Remove the Cinnamon stick, then pour the rice and water into a blender, adding the Vanilla extract. Blend until smooth (approximately 2-3 minutes).
  4. Strain the liquid into a pitcher using a cheesecloth, nut milk bag, or very fine mesh strainer. Squeeze and press the "pulp" to pass as much liquid as possible, then discard the pulp, and repeat the straining process 1 or 2 more times to ensure the liquid is well-strained.
  5. Add the milk and sugar into a small pot and warm over low heat until the sugar is dissolved, then remove from heat.
  6. Combine the two liquid mixtures in a pitcher, stirring well to combine.
  7. Add ice to 4 glasses, then divide the Horchata liquid between the glasses.
  8. Add one serving of Kava: Cinnamon extract to each glass, stirring well to combine.
  9. Option to add a garnish of a sprinkle of ground Cinnamon powder on top or a Cinnamon stick in each drink if desired.
  10. Cheers and enjoy!

Tip:

  • Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar and milk in the recipe to match your desired levels of sweetness and creaminess.
  • Horchata "settles" very quickly in the glass after pouring, so stirring frequently with a straw, spoon, or your Cinnamon stick garnish will help keep the beverage well mixed as you sip.
  • Not serving a party of 4? No problem. The Horchata mixture will last in the refrigerator for ~3-4 days. Whenever you are ready to enjoy a glass, simply pour a cup of Horchata over ice into a glass, then stir in 1 serving of Kava: Cinnamon extract right before drinking.

One squeeze of the dropper equals 0.7 ml; provides approximately 1 serving of Herb Pharm liquid herbal extract.
