History & Fun Facts

Turkey Tail has been used in traditional Chinese herbalism for millennia. The concentric arching stripes of its fruiting bodies can come in a variety of colors, like green, blue, orange, tan, and brown. This rainbow of colors is reflected in its species name, versicolor.

Just as the common name suggests, it resembles the fan shape of a turkey's tail. Characterized as a polypore, Turkey Tail is a type of bracket fungus that has lots of pores on the underside of its surface that release spores.

How It Grows

This woody fungus is often found on fallen logs near streams. While it has a long history as a beneficial mushroom, it is not generally used as culinary mushroom.

We prepare our Turkey Tail products with the dried whole mycelial biomass and fruiting body of Certified Organic Trametes versicolor.

Our Turkey Tail cultures are inoculated and cultivated on California-grown organic brown rice in our indoor facility in Washington, at the edge of the Olympic Mountain range.

Beta Glucans

We’re Big on Beta-Glucans

Did you know beta-glucans are the primary beneficial constituents in mushrooms? It’s true! And one of the reasons why we include Reishi in all our Mushroom Wellness products is because it’s so high in beta-glucans.

Each serving of Turkey Tail Blend with Reishi capsules offers a verified minimum 10% or 100 mg of beta-glucans.
