Herbal Body Scrub
Supplies
Mixing bowl
Mixing spoon
Storage jar with lid
Optional: Coffee grinder
Ingredients
5 parts sugar (raw sugar, brown sugar, or turbinado) or salt (sea salt, Epsom salt, or Himalayan pink salt)
1-2 parts dried herbs (finely chopped or ground), coarsely ground Oatmeal (for a finer scrub), or whole
Poppy seeds (for a coarse scrub)
2 parts oil (Sweet Almond, Jojoba, Apricot Kernel, or Sesame)
Optional:
2-3 drops essential oil per ½ cup of mixture
Honey
Instructions
- Add the sugar or salt base to a mixing bowl.
- Grind any larger herbs in a coffee grinder. They should look similar to what’s found in a tea bag.
- Add herbs to the bowl and mix.
- Slowly stir in the oil until you get the desired consistency.
- Add in any optional essential oils and mix.
- Spoon the scrub into a container with a lid.
- Use it topically during your next shower! This scrub makes a great gift, too.
Important Tips:
- Leave smaller herbs whole to make the scrub more visually interesting, like bright orange Calendula
petals or purple Lavender flowers.
- Try adding a small amount of spent Coffee grounds for an enlivening aroma in your morning shower!
- If you’ve never worked with parts for proportions before, just choose a measurement based on the scale
of how much you’d like to make. If you’re making only a small amount, choose 1 teaspoon to equal 1 part.
Following the recipe above, you would use 5 teaspoons of sugar or salt, 2 teaspoons of oil, and so on.
If you’re making larger amounts for gifts or bulk, choose 1 cup to equal 1 part.
